Module 1 – Toxic Overload

Detoxification is a huge part of weight loss and improving health!

This might seem like a strange topic to introduce you too so early in the game, but its not. I have given this topic lot’s of thought, and have noticed it is a big part of peoples lives, and the symptoms they are experiencing, so it needs to be addressed straight away. Plus detoxification issues slow down thryoid function AND low thyroid function causes detoification issues.
We are exposed to toxins daily and as we get older and our exposure gets worse; through our food choices, dehydration, gut issues, poor circulation, poor sleep, stress, the cleaning products and skin care we use, and more. It becomes more challenging to remove these toxins from our body, through our detoxification pathways “alone” and this leads to “toxic overload” … so our toxic bucket gets overfilled.

When you think about our modern day environment, it is no mystery why so many people are struggling with their health. Since World War Two, 80,000+ new chemicals have been created, with 1,500+ new chemicals each year. Testing is insufficient at best: 10 will be tested for their neurotoxic effect and NONE will be tested to see how they react with other chemicals (the synergist effect).

So because of the onslaught of stressors on our body each day – chemical, physical and emotional – our cells literally lose the ability to detoxify effectively.

Symptoms of toxic overload;

N

poor sleep – issues falling asleep and waking during the night

N

skin issues including but not limited to, rashes, flushing, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and acne.

N

adrenal exhaustion – this is a really big one!

N

thyroid issues

N

gut issues – diarrhea, constipation, bloating etc

N

weight loss resistance (not only obesity but the inability to put on muscle, also known as “skinny fat.”

N

visceral fat (fat accumulation around organs)

N

insulin resistance

N

hormonal imbalances

N

depression

N

fatigue

N

anxiety

N

irritability

N

brain fog and poor cognitive performance

N

poor memory

N

inflammation

N

aches, pains and stiffness around joints

N

poor skin integrity including wrinkles and CELLULITE!

N

feeling rubbish when you fast

N

a yellow/orange color appearance in the Iris of the eye (as seen in Iridology)

N

a yellow tinge in the white of the eye (as seen in Sclerology)

N

ringing in the ears

N

face and eye twitching

N

bad breath

N

persistent SIBO and or Candida

I had a run in with toxic overload a while back (2020, AKA the year of hell lol), due to excessive stress and pushing myself too hard. This resulted in exhaustion, awful sleep where I would wake 2-3 times a night and wouldnt be able to fall back asleep for 30-60 minutes, my right elbow and shoulder ached with inflammation (where the toxins had built up), I was inflammed all over, not having good regular bowel movements, and I was so irritable. I actually remember crying a lot!

Because of my experience, I delved into the research to help myself and others.

“Our mess becomes our message.”

Toxins surrounding us in daily life and solutions to protect you from toxic overload;

N

house hold cleaners. Solution – natural solutions, lemon juice, vinegar’s, bicarbonate of soda and essential oils.

N

laundry detergents. Solution – I use Borax, and liquid detergent from natural brands like Seventh generation.

N

water quality. Solution – use a good filter (a reverse osmosis filtration system is going to be the best), choose spring or mineral water in glass bottles.

N

air quality. Our homes are so efficiently sealed that chemicals are getting trapped because our houses don’t breath. Solution – Good air filters are necessary to take out pollen and dust, and an ERV (energy return ventilator) brings in the fresh air and lets out stale air. Ventilate (I open my windows every morning, even in winter), tuen off-gas, choose products with low VOC’s, freshen the air by diffusing natural essential oils, and run a fan all the time, especially in the summer months. *oh and watch those candles you love to burn, look for clean burning, non toxic candles like 100% soy or beeswax.

N

mold. Biotoxins from mold affect leptin receptors. Leptin regulates hunger and tells the body to burn fat for energy. A build up of mold in a house can also make you very sick. Listen here.  Solution – apart from calling in an expert… one effective way to to air and let sunlight into your house daily. You want to avoid dampness as much as possible.

N

toxic food. Solution- Avoid conventional grains as much as possible, and choose organic produce and grass-fed, pastured animal products whenever possible (since we are what we eat). Also limit alcohol and if possible vegetable oils and hydrogenated fats.

N

plastics. Solution – Please don’t put hot food in plastic containers, as heat will drive plastic chemicals into the food. And never microwave in plastic. In addition, canned foods have plastic in the lining. The acidity of certain food pulls the BPA, phthalates, and other plastic chemicals right into the canned food source. Choose BPA-free canned foods whenever possible. Also avoid styrofoam, which contains styrene, a cancer-causing chemical. Do not drink out of plastic bottles either as water is the most soluable substance on the planet and will absorb the plastic particles, especially if left in sunlight.

N

beauty products. Not everyone will care too much about this but I do. Your skin is your largest organ and whatever you put on your skin gets directly absorbed into your blood stream. Solution: There are many non-toxic beauty products that can be purchased from health stores (Gabriel, Rejuva, Afterglow and many other brands). I personally use Beauty counter , Om Organics and Greenbutterflyco (here in Airdrie), and have used these for years.

Ways to support detoxing and address toxic overload – the key factors that need to be ‘on point’ per se;

*more on this in the next section
N

movement – walking, rebounding, dancing, swimming, cycling, climbing.

N

sweating and or panting daily – through exercise, sauna and hot baths.

N

quality sleep – your morning routine, and activated charcoal and evening routine.

N

poop daily – hydration, starches, teas, squatty potty and supplements where needed.

N

sooooo many minerals (and electolytes) – research has shown that the best way to remove heavy metals from the body is to consume lots of minerals, which displace heavy metal by pushing them off receptors and out of the body.

N

adequate water/fluid intake – 1 ounce per pound of body weight and more if feeling thirsty, pregnant, exercising or sweating a lot.

N

supplements to help bind and remove toxins – activated charcoal, metal free sublingual, MSM, liquid chlorophyll, vitamin C, Vitex, NAC, digestive enzymes, Berberine, humic and fumic acid.

N

eat foods that bind and support detoxification – cilantro, rosemary, broccoli, pomegranate, grape seeds,  radishes, bok choy, dandelion, sweet potato, apples, apple cider vinegar, green tea, turmeric and other spices.

N

limit exposure to toxins – including foods that contain ingredients that could harm you and household products like above.

N

practice good stress management – sleep is #1 for stress management! Laughter, singing, inversion, meditation, walking, rebounding, dancing, reading, hot baths, essential oils, gardening, playing with your kids, journaling, or whatever else you enjoy, that takes you out of reality for a while.

N

Activated charcoal for example (I posted about my preferred one in the biohacking Facebook group), this is what I use along with liquid chlorophyll, you will also find it under the my favorite products tab. When taken before bed can bind to LPS (lipopolysaccharides), toxic bacteria, heavy metals and toxins in the brain, tissues and gut while you sleep. If you have aches in your joints and sleep issues, you will generally see an improvement in both pretty fast… if you are also actively trying to deload toxic exposure and reload in your body, along with activated charcoal before bed. *We do not want to take activated charcoal 365 days a year. Only as needed and always 40 minutes away from other nutrients and medications.

To summarize; We want to empty our buckets and keep those toxins out of our bucket by following the above principles. You can’t expect to change all this overnight, but knowledge applied is power. Slowly remove these things from your life and you will start to see changes in your health. Detoxing your home and body is a huge step forward in realizing optimal cellular health.

PS; you can ask me about Iridology and diagnosing toxicity in the body, if you like.

Remember; the cleaner your body gets, the more sensitive it becomes to toxins. Most people don’t know this! Think of it as your body warning you that your on the wrong path.
