Module 1 – The Liver

The liver is one of our most important organs and is directly connected to thyroid function. Because of this you completed the 7-Day Liver Detox before getting into the masters guide properly. How did you like it? It is designed to support liver health and boost thyroid function.

The liver, as you now know, is one of our main detoxifcation organs and a problem for many people. Especially when it comes to good health, a strong metabolism,  metabolic fleixiblity and insulin sensitivity, thyroid health (as mentioned), cortisol issues, hair loss, inflammation, sleep issues, brain fog, poor circulation, estrogen dominance, diabetes, gout, gut health, skin issues, infections and more.

We know a lot of health issues, are associated with other driving factors, but we are one system and its all connected. We can’t address one issue without addressing all! And because the liver is such a big factor in health, I felt it deserved a section of its own, that compliments the previous toxic overload section.

Your liver is your second largest organ and is actually responsible for supporting over 400 functions in the body. The liver gets about 7 liters of blood every hour. Thats crazy right?!

When your liver is not working properly – apart from thyroid issues accruing, many other aspects of your health and functions of your body are going to go downhill fast, think of fatty liver and metabolic disease.

Every drop of blood that goes through your body, gets filtered through your liver every hour. Crazy!

NOTE; Insulin resistance starts in then liver (and the muscle) and then drives diabetes, fatty liver disease, gout, and more.

Symptoms of poor liver function;

N

slow metabolism

N

slow thyroid or hypothyroidism

N

low progesterone

N

high estrogen

N

jaundice and yellowing of the sclera of the eyes

N

gallbladder and bile issues

N

diarrhea

N

fatty liver disease - both alcoholic and non alcoholic

N

insulin resistance

N

high cholesterol

N

poor circulation

N

fatigue

N

dehydration

N

visceral fat

N

systemic inflammation

N

skin issues and breakouts

N

issues losing weight

If ignored and left untreated, obviously, symptoms and conditions can worsen. Leading to diabetes, blindness, cardiovascular disease, gout, amputation or worse.

So what should we do?

Well apart from doing the 7-Day Liver Detox, which you can do a few times a year, we have to look at what stresses the liver and start to reduce/elimnate them. The we look at what supports a healthy, well functioning liver and we add them in.

Reduce or eliminate;

N

heavy metals

N

toxins

N

alcohol

N

processed, junk and fast food

N

trans fats or PUFAs - these are your polyunsaturated fats, basically processed seed and vegetable oils

N

inflammation

N

stress where possible

N

lose body fat if necessary

Increase or add in;

*you do not need to take/do all of these.

N

My personal favorite supplement for liver health is the Planetary Herbals Stone Free supplement thats in your 7-Day Liver Detox. Especially combined with Taurine.

N

the production of Gluthatione, our master antioxidant, which supports the livers pathways. Either with a gluthatione supplement, NAC (n-acytylcystine) or vitamin C.

N

Turmeric or curcumin, ashwagandha, and kelp also boost the bodies own production of gluthatione, while reducing inflammation and supporting cellular function.

N

herbal teas like raw dandelion root, milk thistle, burdock, parsley, rosemary, cranberry and hibiscus.

N

microgreens like broccoli sprouts and radish which aid in detoxification.

N

digestive enzzymes with bile support can help take some burdon of the liver.

N

berberine and cinnamon, have been show to support good liver function.

N

krill oil has lots of research supporting its anti inflammatory properties, anti oxidant support and ability to help lower tryglycerides and cholesterol.

N

ginkgo biloba is the tree of resiliency, and supplementing with it may support liver resiliency.

N

body brush daily to help blood and lymph flow.

N

exercise and move daily to help with blood and lymph flow. This will also help the liver manage blood sugars and insulin issues better. Rebounding, walking, dancing, cycling and elliptical are top for circulation.

N

avoid eating 3-4 hours before bed to prevent congestion of the detoxification pathways and slowing down of liver function.

N

invert daily (you should at least be doing this in your evening routine). inversion moves blood, lymph and toxins from your feet to your excretory organs, taking the strain off the body adn organs to pull then up.

N

SLEEP! Its during sleep that most of our detoxificationa dn regeneration occurs. So if you support your liver with the above, it will put all those tools to use when you sleep.

N

Brazil nuts raw and organic if you can find them - no more then 3 a day.

N

Organic berries or pomegranate are high in vitamin c.

N

Vinegars aid the liver in ‘cleanliness’.

N

Cilantro, Chlorophyll and Spirulina are chelators; meaning they bind to toxins and help remove them from organs and tissues.

N

Green leafy veg – organic or its pointless.

N

Drink lots of clean and mineralized water.

N

Practice stress management and or use adaptogens to help your body manage stress.

N

*ask me about a "Tocotrienol" supplement for NAFL or fatty liver.

Congratulations, you just completed reading module 1. Now go put your new knowledge into action.
